Wi-fi services will soon be launched at Vijayawada Railway station followed by other ‘A’ category stations in the Division. The first half hour will be free for the passengers and later it will be chargeable, Vijayawada divisional railway manager Ashok Kumar has said.
Speaking to newsmen here Tuesday while inspecting various passenger amenities such as provision of dustbins, footover bridges, water coolers, water taps, provision of toilets, lifts and escalators, he said that a third line connecting Duvvada-Vijayawada-Gudur was sanctioned at a cost of `3,000 crore and in the first phase an amount of `1,500 crore. As the final survey has been completed, works will commence in a few months from now.
To a query regarding provision of lifts and escalators, he stated that gradually all the ‘A’ category stations will be covered in the Division for providing lifts and escalators at the railway stations.
While responding to a the question on the formation of the new railway zone with Vizag as headquarters, the DRM said that the railway ministry is yet to take a decision on this and a team of officials are examining the aspect of the zone formation.
As a part of safety preparedness, Ashok Kumar and a team of officers conducted a safety drive in Vijayawada-Rajahmundry section of the Vijayawada division on Tuesday. In this connection, a detailed programme has been chalked out for covering the entire division. The aspects included adequacy of infrastructure, fitness of track, condition of points and crossings, location of signals and safe guards at level crossing gates.
After inspecting Eluru, Tadepallegudem and Nidadaviolu railway stations, the DRM told mediamen that alongside regular safety drives, Swachh Bharath Mission was being observed. As per the directives of the ministry of railways, an intensive campaign and cleanliness drive is being observed as a part of Swachh Bharath Mission, he said.
He stated that drives on cleanliness will be observed from Oct 11 till March 31 next year. Another drive -- ‘Sardar Patel United Clean India Drive’ will also be conducted, the DRM added.
